EU votes to protect rail passengers
September 30th 2005
The EU parliament this week discussed and approved a wide range of changes relating to rail matters, including agreeing to minimum compensation levels for passengers delayed
While generally unknown to the travelling public Iarnród Éireann currently offer higher compensation levels for delays that those approved by the EU. However they do not offer compensation to monthly and annual ticket holders for failure to provide a satisfactory service on average. It is clear that without an independent body to monitor Iarnród Éireann targets and timetables will continue to be massaged.
