Derailment in Kildare

August 16th 2008

There has been a train derailment near Portarlington this morning, Rail Users Ireland has learned. The incident involved the 11:00 Dublin Cork service hitting a landslide just south of Portarlington at approximately 11:45. The train remained on the track and is upright, though the locomotive derailed. No injuries reported.

As of 12:45 today there is no notice on the Irish Rail website. News of a incident was first posted on the Rail Users Ireland forum at 12:17

Services have now been restored however, there are numerous cancellations on the Dublin Cork route and delays of up to 3 hours on some services
