![]() not sure where this should go.. but i was home last weekend and I was informed by a few friends thatpart of this 2bn money for the north included the reopening of the old railway line... obviously the station can't be put back without knocking down lidl but has anyone else heard these rumours?

![]() The tunnel was actually on the Goraghwood (near Newry)-Armagh line. With reference to Portadown-Armagh, it seems to crop up frequently as a reopening proposal, but I doubt there's been anywhere near enough work done to make it a feasible prospect for at least a decade, still less the continuation to Monaghan.

![]() Ulster Rail Corridor...
Just imagine all the passengers getting the train to Portadown on a nice sunny sunday morning in July and then not being allowed back the traditional way because there's only one train a day..... Nobel Peace Prize winners in bowler hats complaining, Joe Duffy Complaining No Father McGreil complaining though.... Different Sorta Reverend in a trilby complaining.... Oh the craic would be more than 89... Lord Laird complainin boot nae havin t'aul reet names on thar display yokie. Some boyo from Monaghan haigh, thinking the same haigh. |

![]() there'd be greater economic benefit in reopening the derry road would there not, rather than this branch line which would only get funding due to the cross-border aspect and political considerations. it's not like there are many cross border monaghan armagh commuters are there? And if places like derry, omagh and dungannon had proper intercity services, would it not benefit them more?
then again, the west of the bann is always going to get violated by whoever is in power. |
