![]() I don't get the direct trains cause they run them too late but should be one spare 3x car set though for the overcrowded services ie the 18:00 limerick-Limerick junction service. Is there anymore on order?

![]() I believe ICR units might take over the shuttle
A 2800 is significant worse than a 2700 in passenger comfort terms

![]() You are absolutely correct, the 2800 is not an advance on the 2700 in passenger comfort terms. Ride quality is dreadful while reliability and performance are relatively poor. Limerick to Limerick Junction is an obvious candidate for ICRs although 3-car sets would probably provide more accommodation than necessary.

![]() 2751/2753 should be designated to the Nenagh line to save fuel. Hope that shuttle service does go ICR 22k cause im sick of either standing or sitting on 2700's and going home with aches and pains plus i have vertigo the shaking from side to side doesn't do any favors for it.
What will happen to all these rail-cars 2600, 2700, 2800 if they are replaced with 22k's will Iarnród Éireann sell them or will they just be thrown in the sidings like the MK3's |

![]() Not going to happen. IE is not running them as solo units any more but as fake 22Ks.

![]() There is a good reason for not running the 2751s as solo cars: if you have an engine failure you are totally stranded. Other DMUs can at least limp home unless there is a more radical failure.

![]() Its done in plenty of other countries, we seemed to do alright with a single big locomotive for decades.
That said there really isn't a huge cost difference as Irish Rail have the trains lying around. Now for a private operator is pay by the ton/km and then single car is the difference between loss and profit. Sadly we have only 2 single car units so you can't really operate much without a 2 coach somewhere as well

![]() Reported on IRN that 2 sets of ICR will start service next month. Replacing the 2900 on Sligo line and increase capacity on Westport line.

![]() Assuming no further screw ups there should be some of the new sets in service by end this month, it takes 15 round trips to Cork to build up the required 8000km running. If anything goes wrong the clock resets and more journeys are required.

Mind you, Irish Rail would probably prepare just to run the entire system this way - having passengers or freight on trains is just a headache. They are always expecting things like arriving on time, heat, comfortable seats and catering. Easier just to run all the trains empty. Anyway, it will be nice to get an extra 22k on the Sligo line. They seemed to find one for the 1805 to Longford for about a month before Christmas but we're back to the boneshakers for the moment. |
