Irish Rail are accepting bus tickets for travel

Dublin Bus says some limited services on main roads are now starting up again. It is entirely unclear, however, as to which ones they have in mind.

There has been a fire near the Merrion Gates (between Sydney Parade and Booterstown stations). Trains are suspended in the area.

WEATHER WATCH - 6th January, 17.25hrs

Iarnród Éireann has advised customers that all rail services are continuing to operate around the network today during the freezing conditions. Some minor delays may occur.

Rail personnel are manning strategically important locations on the network to ensure that snow is kept clear of points to ensure services operate.

In addition, to ensure the reliable operation of all City Centre to Clonsilla and Maynooth services this afternoon and evening, all services between Docklands and Clonsilla will now operate between Connolly and Clonsilla, to the scheduled timetable. This is to ensure that points can be set to a single routing, avoiding risk of any faults.

Iarnród Éireann also advises that there is very heavy demand for DART and Commuter services as a result of road conditions and bus cancellations, and rush hour levels of demand have been experienced since 3pm this afternoon.

Iarnród Éireann is accepting valid bus tickets on Dublin Bus routes affected. We would ask customers for their patience at stations and on platforms where there are large numbers of passengers. This will ensure that we can bring everyone wishing to travel home safely this evening.

Iarnród Éireann thanks customers for their cooperation with these arrangements.

Current service delays:

15.05 Heuston to Waterford: 90 minutes late, due to points fault near Kildare

DART services experiencing some delays due to mechanical fault on 16.30hrs Connolly to Wexford at Sydney Parade - update to follow

AA Roadwatch are saying

Southbound DART and Commuter services are delayed by 20mins due to a train fault at Sydney Parade. Northbound services are delayed by 25mins due to sheer volumes of people using the service.

Reports are the 1630 Connolly-Wexford failed at Sydney Parade. IÉ is expecting it will not be cleared until after 1800.

Southbound trains are moving again, but reports suggest delays of upwards of half an hour.

At 17:40 I passed a Sandyford bound Luas stopped between Ranelagh and Beechwood.

Didn't look like it was going anywhere and I didn't recall passing too many trams on my way from Sandyford

16:30 to Gorey died it was 29x10 it was parked in the bay platform in Dun Laoghaire, it got there under its own power. No visible damage

Delays now in the 20 minute bracket, very large volumes of people.

Sounds like the most sensible thing I've heard from Irish Rail for some considerable time.

It shouldn't be required, the points at Pearse, Connolly and even Dalkey were used without problems. It only worked since the people who rely on the 38/39/70 bus routes descended on Pearse, Tara and Connolly to get home

Raises the question if they can do this do we need Docklands at all?

Do we know how people got from Dun Laoghaire to Kilcoole, Wicklow, Rathdrum and so on then, was it by bus? Also if this is the train that comes back up in the morning is there a replacement for tomorrow?

No. Never used the station so, don't see the point in it.

Heavy traffic delaying Luas Reds at Gardiner Street junction. Slight delays also between Heuston and James's, and Bluebell-Blackhorse.

As all the trams are full, the trams should be terminating at Abbey, in order to facilitate huge queues there and at Jervis.

Apparently the Roslaire trains' engine went on fire and that's why it caused the delay. Was stuck on a DART between grand canal and lansdowne for more than half an hour. Very informative driver, fair play.

The timetable went out the window tonight, massive delays.

The queue for a ticket in Pearse was crazy, but 3 TVM's, two booking offices and two ticket sellers plus a member of staff on point to manage the booking hall
