Irish Rail revenue control has notified staff that Diner Club cards are not to be accepted as a method of payment. The credit/debit cards which are accepted by the company are: MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Laser Card.

That'll affect about three people a year I'll wager.

Worth noting as well that IÉ TVMs don't accept American Express, although Veolia ones do.

Amex / Diners Club charges are unbelievably high, and they don't get the money for about a week after the transaction - I fully understand IE's reluctance to accept them...

Are you sure? I have a feeling that the Amex Logo is on the machine but that if you put in your card it can't read it (Irish Amex not chip & pin)

I don't own an Amex card so can't check, but Veolia TVMs aren't chip&PIN either...
