Default Closure of Thomastown Station

Quote:
Thomastown Station Improvement Works by Corporate Communications

As part of our on-going investment, Thomastown Station on the Dublin-Waterford will be closed for a period of six weeks starting from 23rd October, 2006 to 3rd December to upgrade and extend the platform there.

Bus transfers will operate between Thomastown and Waterford for customers travelling to/from Waterford and between Thomastown and Kilkenny for all other stations.

Bus transfers will operate at normal scheduled train times.

Iarnród Éireann regrets any inconvenience and would like to thank intending passengers for their co-operation and understanding while we complete these works.
For those of us who know Thomastown was downgraded from a 2 platform to a single platform station about 2 years ago when the mini CTC signalling removed the loop, in simple terms the track could be slewed onto the old platform, easily done overnight and leave the station open but alas thats too sensible for IE, there was plently of chances to do this work while mini CTC was being commissioned and indeed during the closures to redeck a viaduct near by
