Work begins on Docklands train station

Work is to start this week on a new E28m railway station in Dublin

The new station will be located in Dublin's docklands to cater for
an underground rail link from Spencer Dock to Heuston station. The
station will also allow passengers to transfer from the proposed
extension of the Luas red line to the IFSC

Work on the station is expected to be complete by the middle of
next year

Work on the first train station to be built in Dublin city centre for more than 100 years is expected to start later this week.

The docklands station should open by the middle of next year.

The granting of final planning permission means work will start within days.

Iarnród Éireann says it will help it deliver a much improved service on the Maynooth-Dublin commuter line. It will also allow passengers to transfer to and from the proposed extension of the Luas red line to the financial services centre. (If you walk far enough)

It will be the first new mainline station in Dublin since Tara Street opened in 1890.

It is one of several projects planned for the docklands and financial area under the Government's Transport 21 plan.

The docklands station will pave the way for an underground DART interconnector which is planned to link the DART to Intercity, Luas, commuter and metro services.

The construction will cost an estimated €28m.

Presuming the locals actually behave for once

What about Grand Canal Dock (which almost counts as a city centre station) and Clontarf Road?

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't part of that station overhang the Grand Canal and part of it may actually be in D2

Part of it overhangs Grand Canal Quay its a good 30 m on the D2 side

I have always regarded the canals as the definition of the City Centre places like Drumcoundra and Ranelagh were always regarded as suburbs.

I'd say the city centre is a lot smaller: Dorset st to st Stephen's Green
Connolly to some vague undefined area immediately west of Capel st.

I'd use Inner city for between the canals.

300m to Luas is a little more difficult to forgive.

I also note that the station is planned as a mainline station; which Intercity service is planned from here?
