FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

As the disputes on our railways has now entered its second day, Platform 11, the national rail users organisation is shocked and appalled at the lack of comment by the Minister for Transport, Mr Martin Cullen. As chaos unfolded on our railway network yesterday his continued silence on the matter became very alarming.

The Minister is the sole shareholder in Irish Rail, does he now believe that this important position precludes him from addressing the many thousands of people who are being affected by this dispute. It is simply not good enough for the Minister for Transport to ignore what has now become a very serious situation. Platform 11 is sure the minister would be very quick to turn up at a media friendly launch of the new train but has obviously distanced himself from the negative publicity that now surrounds these trains.

Platform 11 calls on the Minister to make a statement to the rail customers in this country and to take an immediate proactive approach in bringing a swift conclusion to the disruption.

Once we find the Minister we will then start looking for the following people

Dr John Lynch, CIE Chairman
Richard A Fearn, CEO Iarnród Éireann
Steven Murphy, Manager Southern and Western, Iarnród Éireann

Mr Barry Kenny, Media Spokesperson, Iarnród Éireann is in Dubai, he always takes a holiday when there is a strike funny that

The level of information being made available is weak its time someone in authority made a clear detailed statement outlining exactly what is going on and what are the issues

Joe passenger doesn't give a damn why the trains are not run, they just want to get home

Well, you know, fair play to him. I would like to invite the rest of the membership of Platform11 to join in with his expression of disapointment. In fact, I would go much stronger than that. I'm now hoping that Paul dosnt edit what I'm going to say:

Given the price of the ticket from Templemore to Dublin I'd say thats a conservative estimate!!

and not counting the cost in lost business in the regions too.

Galway businesses were on the news giving out about lost revenue from tourism etc.

You can't really estimate the cost when it's not known how long the strike will last, can you?

Well, logicly speaking you can estimate anything. That's why tunnells and things costs so much.

As I understand it, IE estimate the cost of the strike so far is €1 million. Obviously that will rise as the strike continues.
