![]() I am currently travelling most days from Clontarf to the Thomas St area, generally DART Killester-Connolly and Luas Connolly-Four Courts.
Fed up playing two fares, and armed with the information from this site: http://www.platform11.org/passenger_info/ticketing.php and http://www.luas.ie/ftp/head3_US/IR%20Ticketing.pdf I used the ticket machines at Killester to try buy a ticket valid for Luas. The mchine did not offer a destination of Heuston so I chose Cherry Orchard which was 1.65 instead of 1.35: still a lot cheaper than buying 2 tickets. I checked the "More pasengers/Feeder bus ?" option but it just brought me to dialogue about adding more passengers, there was no option about choosing a feeder bus (or indeed tram). The ticket didn't bear any information about whether it was valid on Luas or the bus- it just had Killester - Cherry Orchard. The "Irish Rail and Luas Ticketing" PDF doesn't include any examples of the tickets produced by the self service machines - it may predate their widespread introuction. I made the journey and figured if I met any inspectors that I would face an argurment but I didn't meet any. Does anyone know if such a ticket is valid on Luas? If not is there some other ticket I can but to avoid paying twice? I only make this particular journey one way and my entire daily train & tram bill is 3.70 so a weekly ticket is not worthwhile. Of course in any normal city such a ticket would automatically be valid for any destination in the same zone, but everyone here knows that... |

![]() Firstly the ticket machines can't issue tickets which are luas valid, its a known issue and IE management have agreed with that it should be possible and a software update is coming, its not ideal but we have a timescale
The correct Luas valid fare would be €2.35, €1.35 + €1 Secondly the ticket clerk in the station should be able to issue a ticket valid to Heuston on Luas, it is possible the key is to get the IFB on the ticket Only thing I can recommend is the Luas smart card as its 15 cent a trip cheaper than Luas singles Last edited by Mark Gleeson : 15-05-2006 at 14:44. |
