GardaĆ* in Co Westmeath are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of man on a railway line near Athlone.
It is understood the man, who was in his 50s, died after he was struck by a train travelling from Galway to Dublin yesterday evening.
His body has been removed to hospital for a post mortem examination.
