Serious issues raised here. More "half truths" or "lies" from the "normals" anyone? |

![]() I guess the Generator van on a mark2 was belching out diesel fumes. But there have been problems with the railcars as well.
The main problem is, of course, lack of communication. |

![]() Indeed the photo is a train that hasn't been to Sligo in nearly a decade in platform 8 in Heuston
Those nice people up north in Translink would issue a press statement if this happened to explain and post it on their website. Meanwhile in Dublin its shoved under the carpet in the hope no one will find out. Firstly highly unlikely it was a issue with the generator van, exhausts are on the roof, whereas the AC intakes are underfloor so even if it did go on fire it wouldn't effect the coaches Based on recent events it sounds more like a siezed brake on the trailing bogie of the generator van or the lead bogie of the first passenger coach, this would produce much dark smoke but no fire. The smoke would by sucked in by the air conditioning The age of the coaches is not important as this failure has been recorded on Mk2d, Mk3 and Mk4 type coaches all of which have wildly different braking systems ranging from 1960's to 2005 I've got dates and places on at least 4 other incidents of this type in the last year Portarlington 12/7/2007 Mk3pp Somewhere between Adamstown and Sallins Mk2d (searching for date) Knocklong 24/9/2006 Mk4 Thurles 18/8/2006 Mk3 Once the train is halted there is no problem in a situation where the train is filling with smoke and you can't move down the train to exit trackside provided you do so on the opposite side to the other track, of course Sligo line is single Last edited by Mark Gleeson : 19-07-2007 at 13:44. |

![]() The same fault, all within a specified period of time, over a variety of coaches?
Connection? |
