![]() Yet again, the madness starts again. The Sligoweekender, the newspaper that helped save the Sligo line in the 1990's, seems to think that since it succeeded (Brilliantly) in saving one, it can now lobby and turn Sligo into some kind of Irish Crewe in the Northwest.
http://www.sligoweekender.ie/news/st...32830&cat=news What are the e-mail contacts for the various newspapers, whenever these arise, they need to be tackled. Are they just for the sake of filling column inches and getting Grandad to salivate about his youth during the emergency when the coal ran out, and the trains did not run? The futility of these need to be tackled, and politicians false lies, false hope and the danger they represent to viable proposals So let us pray A prayer against pointless proposals. "Our Todd, who art in Heuston, hallowed be thine name Thine branch lines gone, enthusiasts moan In Ireland as it is in Britain Give us this day at least 5 daily trains And deliver us from Beeching And lead us into Phoenix Park not Heuston But deliver us from Cravens" Altogether now.......let us pray. "You believe in Branch lines, carrying next to nothing Lossmaking railfreight and spotters in ditches You believe in Maedhbh, the greatest of steam engines Born of a broke nation, she arose through the gullet, conquered Rathpeacon and did the ton. Crucified with Turf, arose again with coal, buried under Bulleid, thou shalt liest in Cultra forever. A Metrovick replaced thee and did Dublin to Cork in 2 1/2 hours Spat Crossley, replaced through EMD, and replaced by a 201 Scrapped in Hammond Lane and turned to razorblades We believe in Multiple Units and Express Trains The Metro, The Interconnector, Speed and Frequency Buses that link with trains, and connected up Luas Integrated Transport, and the end of CIE. Amen We believe in a modern Irish economy, full employment, prosperity for all, a decent health service, proper planning, imprisonment, not tribunals, and we ask that Martin Cullen gets fired and replaced with someone effective. Grant us action, not words in our day. We ask this through the Electorate. Amen Deliver us from Unqualified Transport Consultants, Reports on reports, Political Opportunists (ALL parties), Privatisation, and planning delays Amen. Deliver us Todd from CIE, and in your spirit, Slipthru and the ILDA. Grant us rail to Navan in our time, and peace from breakdowns on the Enterprise and CAF's in your day. In your mercy, keep us free of Baby GM's and Cravens, and keep 2900's off Intercity. May the Rotems be utterly reliable on test and last 40 years. We ask this through Transport21, Amen. Through Phoenix Park Tunnel In a DART In the unity of a modern rail network We pray for the Interconnector Almighty Transport Minister, whoever you shall be. Amen Last edited by dermo88 : 23-05-2007 at 03:32. |
