![]() An article in the "watch this space" of the property in The Irish Times today was talking about the re-development of a hotel on the sea-front. It was given planning permission but with one strange condition, that the developer leaves enough space behind the hotel for space a second track in case they ever decide to double-track Bray-Greystones. I think this is one of the first times I've ever seen an Bord Planeala thinking wisely before letting a project like this go ahead and find in future that it has damned some key route needed for public transport.

![]() Is it necessary to D-T all the way - could long loops at either end of the deviations suffice? Might some of the alignment not have to move inland eventually anyway due erosion?

![]() No, its not necessary to double track all the way but it is necessary to leave room to do so in the future.

![]() most of the line around bray head is not suitable for double tracking - the long tunnel, most of the shorter tunnels and the cuttings both at the bray end and at the approach to greystones station are all single track width.
Greystones town council have been muttering about getting it double tracked as far as the southern entrance to the tunnel but this would involve serious cutting-widening in greystones village, probably involving blasting right next to peoples houses. Its pie-in-the-sky. |
