![]() I've merged the intercity railcars thread with Donalq's thread in the member's board.
I'm copying the posts that do contain media coverage here (thomas reaches for his pinafore and duster...) |

Rosslare and Sligo train users will soon be sitting in the lap of luxury, with €62m worth of state-of-the-art railcars ordered to carry them into Dublin. This latest order means new trains are on the way for every single Intercity route on the national radial network, offering greater comfort and additional frequency. In total, 217 carriages will be brought into service throughout 2006, 2007 and 2008, transforming Irish Rail's fleet from the oldest in Europe to the most modern. It represents a total investment of €441m by the Government, under its 10-year transport plan. The first 67 new carriages arrived last summer, and after extensive trials will go on line this year on the Cork to Dublin route. A further 120 Intercity railcars have already been ordered from Japan, which will be pressed into action next year on routes to Galway, Waterford, Limerick and Westport. Commuters in the Greater Dublin area will also benefit from the final order of 30 new carriages. Irish rail has said that this will free up modern railcars, which are currently being used on the Rosslare and Sligo lines and it will enhance the capacity on the Maynooth and Northern commuter lines in Dublin. The new Intercity railcar fleet will boast: * Internal CCTV. * Air conditioning. * Modern catering. * Sleek design and advanced safety features. * Automatic PA and information display systems. * Improved accessibility for mobility impaired customers. |

![]() The current GM of Southern and Western of IE while working in the UK took a group of passengers to Derby to sit in a preproduction coach and got them to design the seating layout, somewhat doubt that will happen here
I've seen a artists impression of inside and it looks grand |

![]() They will be on the Sligo line and, if what I'm told by someone in IE managment is correct Rosslare, which is in total contradiction to what I was told before, hence my "Never on Rosslare line" stance there two weeks ago.
Definitely Sligo, as they owe them for giving the 29K's to them instead of a proper train. Quote:

![]() I've seen the inside photos (which IE don't know we got) and it looks nothing like anything in the UK it looks more or less like the Cork train but the seats are all in navy blue colour. Ceiling and lighting look the same as the Cork train
Mostly tables and the windows seem to line up with the seats It looks rather like the NIR 3CK or the Alstom Cordia 1500 in many respects Yet another renouncement |

![]() Nice looking thing, any more where that came from? I wonder will these have such things as a power socket for every seat or are we still light years away from luxuries like that?

The interior photos are not close up so the finer detail I can't see Incidently, Mk3 first class coaches have power sockets |
