Default Could industrial dispute at bus eireann spread to irish rail and dublin bus?

Its been a while since this happened indeed the last DB strike had no impact on Irish rail. Could it be different this time if there is a bus eireann strike from Sunday?

From RTE

Quote:
SIPTU has warned that a dispute over Bus Éireann's decision to implement changes to terms and conditions without agreement could spread to Iarnród Éireann and Dublin Bus
.
Bus Eireann has said it was proceeding with its cost-reduction measures from Sunday.
Speaking after 91% of members voted for action, SIPTU’s Willie Noone said: "If the company proceeds on its current course it is likely that workers across the CIE group will be forced to take similar action.
Any thoughts?

The staff I have spoken to have no interest in a strike and have no plans for any sympathy action or strike ballots.

Irish Rail staff signed off on a deal some time ago and it has been implemented.

I'd be guessing Bus Eireann will go high court as it appears neither union has given the required 7 days notice of action.

Also watch the private coach operators exploit the emergency temporary license option from the NTA to mop up passengers

Remember Irish Rail have a contingency plan for this, there are several managers in the company who appear to be able to drive DART trains if needed...

given the formal split of the companies within the CIE group I would be very surprised if this spilled over without IE going into the High Court and getting an injunction right away.

In fact, I dont think there has been a general CIE strike since the split in 1988?? The ILDA thing was contained within IE, and other BE/BAC disputes stayed there too??

Problem is really the fact many bus stations and rail stations are shared, Limerick, Galway, Tralee, Sligo etc. So Bus Eireann staff could not be restrained by injunction as it is their place of work.

yes but it would be then an issue for any IE staff who do not cross the picket line, and you could get directions from a court regarding the picket not taking place in an area whcih is not for the operation of BE. So, in the case of limerick, they can picket at the bus parking area, but not at the the enterence to the station.

sure it can get very very messy, and i dont in this day and age think that the unions will strike.
