Bus transfers Cork to Mallow at present

There are currently bus transfers in operation between Cork and Mallow due to maintenance requirements. An update will follow as soon as possible. A full schedule is operating between Mallow and Tralee/Dublin.

Bridge strike according to PA at Heuston

Line has reopened and services back operationg but with delays.

Although in Heuston they said it was a Bridge Strike I don't beleave it. If it was they would of said it on there website and twitter as it was out of there control. They used maintenance requirements which sounds to make more like a problem with the tracks.

Services resumed Cork to Mallow, with delays
18 June 2012

Services between Cork and Mallow have resumed, following earlier suspension due to necessary line maintenance works.

However, delays of up to 30 minutes are expected to Cork/Dublin and Cork/Tralee services due to a temporary speed restriction, and this will continue on Tuesday 19th June.

In addition, the following service alterations will apply on Tuesday 19th June:

- 05.10 Tralee to Cork terminates in Mallow

- 06.30 Cork to Tralee starts from Mallow

- 09.00 Cork to Tralee starts from Mallow

- 07.45 Cork to Mallow cancelled

Customers for the above services will be transferred between Cork and Mallow by bus or on Cork/Dublin services.

- 07.30 Mallow to Tralee will be a bus transfer

By the looks of things it seems like it may be single line operation?
No onlne booking being accepted on Cork-Dublin route until further notice.

Only one line currently in operation this evening between Mallow and Rathpeacon - possibly the same tomorrow. If so, delays are likely.

Services delays Cork to Mallow

Services between Cork and Mallow are operating but with delays of 30-60 minutes. This will continue throughout today, due to a single line being operational and speed restrictions.

To ease congestion, and reduce delays on following services, the 09.00 Heuston to Cork service will terminate at Mallow and operate with a bus transfer Mallow to Cork; and the 12.30 Cork to Heuston will be a bus transfer from Cork to Mallow and train onwards.

Tonight, maintenance works will be undertaken to alleviate these delays and ensure full services operate tomorrow. This may result in bus transfers between Mallow and Cork from 20.00hrs approx onwards. Full service information will be updated here as soon as it is confirmed.

Single line working this morning.

The reason given was because of flooding yesterday. However, it seemed that the flooding had caused a problem for the cutting wall or an overbridge rather than the line itself.

If it persists, they'd be as well off making the 6:15 leave at 5:45 rather than arrive into Heuston after 9am.

Is there any merit in running Dublin services only as far as Mallow and then operating a shuttle on the single line? At least that way you know that nothing else is on there and you can avoid all the messing about on the points near Blarney.

The Irish Rail site just seems to roll the resolution time on.

Services between Cork and Mallow are operating but with delays of 30-60 minutes. This will continue throughout today, due to a single line being operational and speed restrictions.

Tonight, maintenance works will be undertaken to alleviate these delays this evening. This will result in bus transfers between Mallow and Cork . The following services will be affected:

Tralee to Cork services

17.15hrs Tralee to Cork will operate to Mallow only. Bus transfer will operate from Mallow to Cork.

19.15hrs Tralee to Cork will operate to Mallow only. Bus transfers will operate from Mallow to Cork.

21.05hrs Cork to Tralee will be bus transfers from Cork to Mallow and train from Mallow to Tralee.

Heuston/Cork services

18.00hrs Heuston to Cork will operate to Mallow only. Bus transfers will operate from Mallow to Cork.

19.00hrs Heuston to Cork will operate to Mallow only. Bus transfers will operate from Mallow to Cork.

21.00hrs Heuston to Cork will operate to Mallow only. Bus transfers will operate from Mallow to Cork.

21.30 Cork to Heuston will bus transfers between Cork and Mallow and train from Mallow to Heuston.

Mallow to Cork Commuter services

17.30hrs, 19.30hrs & 20.00hrs Mallow to Cork services will be bus transfers between Mallow and Cork.

16.55hrs, 18.00hrs, 19.30hrs and 22.00 Cork to Mallow services will be bus transfer between Cork and Mallow

Wednesday 20th June

Cork to Heuston service

5.05hrs Cork to Heuston service will be bus transfers from Cork to Mallow and train from Mallow to Heuston

Cork to Tralee service

6.30 Cork to Tralee service will be a bus transfers from Cork to Mallow and train from Mallow to Tralee.

this is becoming a scandal - no word of the cause yet the most profitable line in the country is being disrupted.

Both the 06.15 and 07.30 have 300+ passengers every weekday morning and people rely on getting to Dublin on time

Anyone have the real story ?

Use the 0615 quite a lot, generally about 60 to 80 leaving Cork. further 40 to 60 at Mallow and perhaps the same again at Limerick Junction. Can be a bit busier on a Monday, but usually around 160 or so arriving Heuston.

We are currently making calls to our contacts to get some validation.

Its not a bridge strike, its not an embankment or flooding related.

I was on it this morning. There was easily more than 60-80 on it. That's only 16 per second class carriage. I'd say you're looking at more like 130-140, with more on a Monday. Few get on at Limerick Junction any more since they stopped having a shuttle from Limerick.

I normally join the service at Mallow and while I have no information in respect of today, I am confident that the numbers I quoted accurately reflect the occasions I have used the service.

I am a little shocked with those numbers and how low they are, would it not be more fuel efficent to run a 3 car ICR set on that service is its only getting around that many daily. 190 seats v 400 odd on a Mark 4.

It picks up at other stops too. Without figures from Irish Rail, we won't know the real numbers. I do know that some carriages are busier than others though.

Before they broke the connection at Limerick Junction, there were passengers standing from there. Now, it probably arrives into Dublin 80% full.

I would wonder whether there's any merit in providing a connection from Clonmel at Limerick Junction if there isn't going to be one from Limerick.
