Is this not the timetable where Cork-Dublin goes hourly?

Marvelous, they expect us to pay more for tickets because we will be spending more time on the train......

Making fewer stops so while there might be extra services to Cork it might not mean much on the ground

And IE are seeking a increase

Does anyone else find it strange that there will be significantly more trains to and from cork than to and from "commuter" towns? Time to pass my driving test methinks.

Remember that direct services to Kerry have been slashed, so it won't actually mean all that much more capacity to the South-West.

As for the number of services, it is rumoured to be one of IrishRail's few profitable services, so it probably makes sense from that perspective.

Hub and spoke is the IE way of doing things on the Cork line from December.

Oh, and any insider info will be duly spilled inside the members section.

Question Carlow

Hi

There were rumours of an additional service to carlow between the 16:25 and the 18:25.

Any substance to these?

thanks

New 'proposed' Portarlington timetable is in this thread
http://forum.platform11.org/showthre...2734#post12734

I think the Portlaoise train in the mornings has been swopped with the Cork train (now in Port 7.24 instead of 7.35) but we didn't get any info on other services.

We might know more about the 5 something am ex Cork later but it certainly gets into Dublin earlier probably somewhere in the 8:10-8:30 bracket since it needs to be in Dublin since it leaves at 9am to Cork

Working back my best guess would put the Cork train in Portarlington at about 7:20-7:25 which suggests the 7:24 is ex Cork

Myles said they had to get it to depart 15 mins earlier (5.15?) and ensure it hits the Port area before the Portlaoise train to get it running to the times they want, so it may well still be heading for it's usual ("scheduled") arrival of 8.30am in Heuston. He did awknowledge serious 'teething' problems with it's run on the 5.30 service.

Evidence from the ground indicates a maintainence failure was what nuked the 5:30am which is the most demanding service on the Cork mainline in terms of stops and journey times

The MK4 train just made it worse since its 35 tonnes heavier than the old
