And there's a tube strike over here because the drivers want quadruple pay and an extra day off for working on Sunday. |

![]() Irish Rail's union deals with operational staff consider every day a normal working day. No extra payments for bank holidays
The Luas runs 26th and the DART did run on the 26th in the 1980's and early 1990's http://www.independent.ie/national-n...e-2470008.html

![]() Well this year I would say is exceptional for two reasons:
1. More stores open 2. Weather There is heavy precipitation, forecast for Sunday it's questionable whether it falls as rain or snow, we could see conditions such as heavy snow, bad ice or flooding that could threaten bus services if they are forced to be pulled then barring luas there is no other way for alot of people to get home |

![]() If the buses are running a limited service on Christmas Day then the least Irish Rail should provide is a Dart service on the 26 Dec.

![]() There are no buses at all on Christmas Day. Or trams. Or trains. Or planes. Ireland is officially closed on December 25th every year, regardless of weather, or your religious beliefs. If you want to go somewhere, it's DIY or you're stuck.
In more progressive countries, they run a scaled down service at least on the 25th. Here everything shuts down as it did decades ago, despite the multiple changes in consumer culture and multi-religious affiliations from non-nationals since then. The limited bus service that ran this year was an exception, rather than anything forward-thinking. The Luas service for the past number of weeks was nothing short of a disgrace. A token night-service provided, while on 26th December the shortest wait for any tram in the day was 15 minutes, and of course, a complete no-warning suspension of evening services on 2 December. I told one ticket inspector recently that there should be a night service every weekend, he said no way, he wants to get home. Well we all want to get home, but we all have to go the extra mile in jobs every now and again. If you have a job, that is.
