A man has been killed on the main railway line between Cork and Dublin.

The accident happened just after 2pm near the village of Elton, located between Charleville and Tipperary town.

Investigations are being carried out into the circumstances of the man's death by gardaÃ* and Iarnród Éireann.

Rail services were suspended for a time on the line but have since resumed.
