Since no ballot, and no 7 days notice staff could be sacked as a result, I'd love too see how lack of buses effects drivers, really someone try |

Alternatively, maybe they want shiny new buses. As I overhead one driver waiting at a bus terminus talking to another driver on-board a bus just finishing his run (still following me?): "I hope you're not handing that piece of s*** over to me..." Bless 'em. |

![]() Since the NBRU covers rail staff too what are the odds of trains being cancelled in sympathy strike?

![]() I actually applaud them for not stopping until after 7pm. It is a lot better than the usual "mess up people going to work" thing that they normally do. They must have finally realised that they rarely get public support for inconviniencing the same public???

![]() I actually don`t see any real point in this action.
It is simply another act in the Play that is "Public Transport Policy" in this State. Instead of dealing in the awful reality which both front-line Staff AND Passengers can see each day,the administration is intent on using the situation to settle an inter-party idiological dispute. Whatever the merits of "Liberalization" it is abundantly clear that NOBODY will benefit from the traditional Irish way of trying bits of an idea to see if it`ll work first. Bus Atha Cliath`s route structure and operational model is now at least 5 Years behind where it needs to be in order to simply keep pace with developments which HAVE taken place. What the present incredible situation represents is a Company which is supposed to be "Commercially Focused" being restrained by several Government Departments including (Bizzarrely) the Dept of Health from addressing its responsibilities. Thursdays stoppage will achieve nothing except perhaps to provoke a rare appearance of the Minister for Transport on RTE News bulletins and perhaps to equally provoke a flurry of Health Related Press Releases from Him. Wat a depressing spectacle. As for reasons, well speaking personally I find it a thoroughly depressing spectacle to learn of how senior management are being forced to address a by now chronic shortage of vehicles to service potentially huge area`s of demand. For example service frequencies of 20 mins are still being regarded as the norm in some new proposals, which in this day and age is commercial suicide. Its no fun having to deal with an endless procession of wet, cold and dejected passenhers who rightly or wrongly see the next busdriver as the individual responsible for their sodden plight. Frequency Sells and should be a priority of ALL the agencies involved in Public Bus Services rather than attempting to get the Gallon into the Quart pot.... ![]() From Breakingnews.ie
Bus strike fears ease following meeting 30/08/2006 - 13:20:57 Unions say they are satisfied with the outcome of a meeting with Minister for Transport Martin Cullen this morning. The talks were arranged in an effort to avert a national bus strike planned for tomorrow evening. Plans for a stoppage were organised unofficially by members of the NBRU at Dublin and Bus Éireann amid rumours that Mr Cullen is holding back on his promise to fund new vehicles under pressure from the Progressive Democrats (PD). Both SIPTU and the NBRU said after today's talks that the minister was now promising to deliver on his undertakings to provide 100 new vehicles to Dublin Bus and 160 to Bus Éireann. The NBRU says its leadership will decide this afternoon whether to proceed with the strike action. Speaking following the meeting, Mr Cullen also denied that PD members of the cabinet had been blocking the introduction of the new buses. |

![]() And so the drama goes on. It's really pathetic that this ideological canyon has damaged Dublin PT services to such an extent.
Aside from a small number of people, does anyone actually give a toss whether the bus is owned by a semi-state or a privateer? Probably not. I wish Bertie and Mary would just toss a *#!@ing coin or something because to my mind this whole thing is incredibly stupid. |
