There was at the time a plan to acquire a 125mph capable diesel locomotive which would take over Dublin Cork and possibly Dublin Belfast.

The absence of money has put an infinite hold on the plans. Double heading has been ruled out on fuel cost grounds there is a minor technical issue with the push pull controls as well as the door controls get messed up

Reliability Dublin Cork is pretty good by international standards, certainly better now than the Mk3 era. Its far better than Dublin Belfast.
