![]() It appears that the damage to the bridge at Lansdowne Rd is worse than first thought
No service Pearse - Dun Laoghaire until further notice. We are expecting some improvement on that (i.e Grand Canal Dock - Booterstown closed) but we have to wait and see on details.

Some safety concerns should be expressed here- that bridge has had thousands of people over it since the flood water subsided. Shockingly abrupt notice too- was the problem only discovered now? Also, no notice of how this will affect the weekend services, seeing as they were already curtailed to Clontaf Rd northbound. A shuttle Pearse-Clontarf Rd and back I guess. ![]() Closure is now Sydney Parade - Grand Canal Dock as we more or less guessed a while ago
Expect a train every 20-30 minutes Bray - Sydney Parade, 50% of trains will be on the wrong platforms in both directions from Sydney Parade as far as Salthill as this is the only way to get this to work out Full or close to full DART service on northside to Grand Canal Dock station. All Maynooth/Northern line trains which terminate south of Pearse will terminate at Pearse Rosslare line bus transfers to/from Bray Dublin Bus will accept all rail tickets and rail smartcards on southside

![]() Will be a challenging operating environment tomorrow. Southside arrangements will be complicated by the continuing absence of crossovers at Merrion which means that every 2nd train will have to operate on the "wrong line" northbound from Dun Laoghaire or southbound from Sydney Parade. In other words a northbound train from Dun Laoghaire will have to return from Sydney Parade on the same line as it travels to Sydney Parade. It should be possible to maintain a half-hourly Greystones to Sydney Parade service adhering to the published schedules. All other services north of Bray will preumeably be cancelled.
Running the normal northern and Maynooth services to Pearse/Grand Canal Dock will be somewhat of a challenge, although operating the DART to Grand Canal Dock and the outer suburban services to Pearse should mitigate the congestion somewhat. A spare DART driver at Grand Canal Dock to speed up reversing movements would be of considerable assistance as it will be necessary for trains to run south of Grand Canal Dock in order to obtain normal running signals for return northbound departure. Any other method of operation is likely to cause near terminal congestion and collapse the peak period service. |

![]() Best strategy if heading north to the city centre: Try to travel off peak. Travel as far as you can on DART and then change to bus. Purchase return or multi-day tickets if possible. Have your ticket(s) / money ready to hand before arriving at the train station / bus stop.
If paying on the bus, please have the correct change ready, bank notes are not accepted. Only single tickets are available on the bus. However, Dublin Bus ticket agents: http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Fares--Ti...Ticket-Agents/ stock a variety of multi-day day tickets (1, 3, 5, 30 days - days used need not be consecutive) and Travel 90 tickets (10 Journey Travel 90 Adult €19, each ticket valid on any number of buses, once the last boarding is within 90 minutes of the first boarding with that ticket). Note that not all of the bus services below serve the relevant train station. The relevant maps can be found by clicking on the route numbers here: http://www.dublinbus.ie/Your-Journey1/Timetables/ Bus services that do not operate north of Dún Laoghaire are not listed. ![]() its looking like these works and resulting disruption could take up to a forthnight.
suppose it could be worse, imagine the disruption the scale of malahide viaduct collapse if nothing was to be done Quote:

![]() Reality is this is more disruptive than Malahide as there are a lot more passengers and trains involved plus there is no magic bullet solution. Malahide had the Port Tunnel which got the majority to work in a time little different than normal, no such luck on the southside

![]() There may be more trains over the Dodder bridge than over Malahide viaduct but peak traffic wouldn't be massively different as the northern commuter trains are still overloaded to a degree not typically seen on DART. Also daily revenue loss would be much less as the vast bulk of passengers crossing the Dodder are making short journeys commanding very modest fares.
In addition the duration of the disruption will be comparatively modest compared to Malahide. Last edited by Inniskeen : 28-10-2011 at 22:28. |

![]() Any word on replacement buses? Spoke to a few people at work on Sat, who all said they stood waiting for buses at RDS between 6-7pm. All gave up waiting and walked to town. I was amongst them, but I gave up after 30mins. Hope IE have learnt their lessons from Friday, and put a proper plan in place for the next 2 weeks...

![]() it's going to be some week, these buses can often be packed even with the DARTs running with people left behind.
don't forget the 47, it's often an underused route that serves ballsbridge, lansdowne goes as far as st vincents hospital, then heads towards ucd. Another option for those heading towards blackrock, booterstown would be to get the 45 at merrion square just around the corner from pearse station. this is the first stop. another option for those heading towards ballsbridge/lansdowne/rds area would be to get the 37/38/39/39a/70 to baggott street/Waterloo road. it's a five minute walk up to the o'briens sandwich bar kiosk. I've often done it myself. hopefully it won't be too bad considering it's mid term week! |
