Quote:
Service Alerations will be in place on Sligo line from 5th - 16th October due to Engineering Works by Corporate Communications

Service Alerations will be in place on Sligo line from 5th - 16th October due to Engineering Works.

A Bus transfer will be in operation between Dromod and Sligo for the duration of the works in both directions. Intending customers should allow for an extra 30 minutes onto their journey time.

Please note that buses will Depart Sligo and Colooney 30minutes in advance of the scheduled train times to Dublin.

These works are to faciliate the renewal of the Drumsna Railway Bridge which is part of the Transport 21 Investment programme.

The full timetable is available on this website or from your local station.

Iarnród Éireann apologises for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.
Its only taken 10 years to finally replace this bridge

I presume this is not the renewal stage of the bridge? Anyone know when we can expect 5+ months delays & bus substitutions during the renewal, taking the works on the Cobh line a few years ago as my basis!

Could they not just base a 2 railcars between Carrig-on-Shannon and Sligo? Looking @ google maps, the distance between Carrig-on-Shannon and Dromod is just over 10miles (~18km).
At least it would remove the ~90mins in a bus to Sligo!

That would just be too sensible!

Sligo doesn't have the staff or equipment to look after the trains for 10 days, 2-3 days no problem, beyond that trouble

Journey time wise it would be faster by bus than train- bus -train

Was the bridge originally designed as double track. Surely they should just build a new deck and close the old one (moving trains are much more of a burden than stationary bridges).

Its a single track bridge, the piers are wide enough but the current bridge is in the centre so it has to be lifted out first before a new one can go in

Sligo line Engineering works due to take place from 5th - 16th October have been deferred until furt by Corporate Communications

Sligo line Engineering works due to take place from 5th - 16th October have been deffered until further notice This is due to Atlantic Storms, which are delaying the arrival of the ship carrying the crane, which will be used to move the new Drumsna Bridge into place Further details will be posted on this website as soon as they become available
They really are scraping the barrel with the excuses this time,

The IE Notice really does say "Sligo line Engineering works due to take place from 5th - 16th October have been deferred until furt by Corporate Communications"

When the hell is "furt"? (sounds rude rather than plain sloppy).

Pity they don't spend a bit more time on their own site, rather than browsing the web. They still have "deffered" in the body of the notice (not to mention random capitalisation and lack of full stops).
