![]() A very off-topic question, but I was looking at Fred Barry of the NRA's presentation to the Chamber of commerce and I was wondering, which bits of the Atlantic Road Corridor will be 2+1?
I have to admit I think 2+1's are great -- was at a wedding in Sweden last year and they're the perfect compromise of safety and footprint, especially with our land acquisition costs |

![]() He said they hadnt decided yet, it'll be interesting to see how the new stretches get on such as the Clontribet N2.

![]() Some parts of the ARC (certainly the Charleville bypass) will be full dual-carriageways.
Having driven on 2+1s here I am unconvinced. If you get stuck behind a slow truck or tractor on one of the single-carriageway bits, there is no possibility of passing and I certainly wouldn't like to see a failure on one. On the parts with passing lanes, you see most cars accelerate to 130+ kph because they want to get past all slow moving vehicles when they still can. |

![]() its still safer that single carriageway. You would be unfortunate to be stuck behind an agricultural vehicle for 2km though
