[24-3-2006] Big Delays into Heuston

According to AA Roadwatch a freight train broke down at Sallins this morning around 7-730 resulting in delays of a least one hour into Heuston this morning.

Anyone got confirmation?

There was an incident but I believe it to be sometime between 6 and 7am

Just my usual complaint: not a dicky bird on the IE website, so you get the news from the AA. At about 1030am when things were back to normal the AA had it, but only now (at mid-day) has the IE website woken up to tell us that all is back to normal.

Hi,

There were delays into Heuston, starting with the 0645 Kildare to Heuston. There was a freight train failed at/near Sallins following the path of the 0515 Athlone-Heuston. This caused the 0645 to wait in Heuston until the failed loco was cleared from the line.

The ticket checker made it sound like it was a double headed freight (Assumed 141/181 double) and the live loco removed the dead one.

0645 arrived 50 mins late into Heuston. Assuming all subsequent trains late by similar amounts. Heuston was empty when 0645 arrived, on Platform 1 to make matters worse.

0740 Heuston-Kildare cancelled, 0645 became 0825 Heuston-Kildare.

Regards,

KC

You'd really have to question the logic of running slow moving freight trains during peak commuter hours one a busy commuter line.....

The "slow moving" freight would have been no problem had the loco not failed. If it was late it could have been looped to let passenger trains passed. The loco failure could just have easily have happened to the loco of a passenger train.
