Christmas Decorations

I don't do Christmas decorations. None in the house, no tree, no tinsel, no stockings on the fireplace - the only way you know it's Christmas is by the bits of discarded wrapping paper here and there.

There's no kids in my house, and I reckon you only put them up to take them down and ( meany alert) they're a waste of money.

I get a lot of grief because of this from friends and neighbours, with one neighbour threatening to break in and put a up tree for me! I'm not bah humbug - I buy pressies, cook turkey & ham, say 'Happy Christmas' to people etc.

Anyone out there like me or should I expect a torrent of 'Where's your Christmas spirit' abuse?

PS - Bin this thread after Little Christmas please, I also hate Christmas things dragging out for ages.

My house also refuses to acknowledge xmas.

No kids ( thank god ) so I for one see no need to put any up.
There a good few houses around me also without any decorations up.

.

Myself and Wheeler are big into Christmas. But I can see where you're coming from.
You're coming from a mean spirited god-awfull place where I'm just not going.

Nah, you can do a lot more with kids than that.

such bah humbug

no kids in my house except me but there are decorations*

* defined as a single string of 7 euro lights running the length of the living room

Thomas J Stamp 20-12-2006 12:20

You really dont want to tempt me on that, just ask Derek.................

I've got the single string of lights up, the fun police don't like us having lights up its against the rules of occupancy in my place not that that stops us

Not a fan of Christmas

Best thing about Christmas is the time off work.

Insert "what did the romans ever do for us" here.

Who makes up that kind of rule? I understand why you can't hang clothes out but no christmas lights? I have a tree in my window. I also put up flags occasionally.

Mark Gleeson 20-12-2006 18:32

The person making the rules has a christmas tree up

Candles are out as well

The renegades have there lights up and no problems so far

No kids in my house, but tonnes of decorations. Just look at the kit under my tree! secrets out. (Where is this? ...is no more)

Anyway, its a personal thing. I can understand why people don't bother, but in our house (the lovely Louise and I) we do it in recognition of a time of year where you can at least remember, reflect and understand the year that was and fill your home with a festive atmosphere to remind you of whats its really about. No splashing out on clothes, expensive pressies, booze or restaurants.
Christmas is a landmark in the calendar and if you want to do a religious, moral, personal or financially outlandish act, then thats up to you. The most important aspect of it, is to celebrate it in a way that has some true meaning for you as an individual or family. Decorations are only a small part of it, but are important to some. Its optional really.

I'll post a photo of my tree soon. Its really cool.:D
