i don't either but i thought it was just me!

There is a certain senior manager in IE who doesn't have one either, you know who you are

I don't have one either, my second provisional expired last March and I have still to apply for the third.

The irony is that I work as a road design engineer...

Who needs one anyway, the Green Line is my oyster!

I don't and never did. Cars make people very lazy driving 5 minute journeys instead of a 10 minute walk.

And not having one makes for a nice quiet relaxing Christmas, don't have to go driving around visiting people :D

I don't drive at all. I live in Temple bar so no real need.

I have no idea how to drive.
The stigma I get at home and from the in-laws is unbelievable, "26 and cant drive!"
However most of my mates dont drive either. I guess when I go trying to get a job in the new year I may have to learn, if I dont move out foreign.

So journey times aren't so important as frequency.

I honestly think its an age thing. Most of my friends over 30 do. Very few my age (25) do and a couple have started to think about it, myself included.

Have a licence but dont drive dont have a car .
Its handy to have if you go for a job else changing job may require moving house

I would have thought that insurance is a problem with you lot, being as it were, under 30 and male (apart from 2funki)? In most cases the car is cheaper to buy then the insurance!!

I think having a car parked in my driveway for 5 out of 7 days is a waste, you still pay the same tax/insurance/NCT charges like people who regularly use theirs.

Who'd have thunk it? A large number of people who support an organisation which is campaigning for better public transport don't drive. What are the odds :D

Does the opposite of this mean, that if we drive we wouldnt give a toss about public transport? :confused:

That's the general impression I get in this country.

I quit my job in Dublin because of the lack of a late train service to Portlaoise. I will have to drive to my new job in Birr because there is no public transport option. I have a provisional licence and have been waiting for my test for 6 months and have just found out the waiting list have gone up by another month.

That is an absolute disgrace. To all those idiots who still think Irish Rail provide anything like a proper service - even as close in as Portlaoise to Dublin - read that post again. Disgraceful.

Well the usual IE game of its a good idea and we wiill think about it bascially f*** off this is our trainset don't tell us how to run it

Now where do I remember that same sentiment being expressed..........

Last year at a meeting with Myles I was promised a service after 9pm to portlaoise in this new timetable. This year in the same meeting I was told 2009 which probably means January 2010. Up until recently I had to go to my parents house on an 11 o'clock bus for 1 week out of every 3 because I needed to work until half nine. We have since bought a car and my husband collects me from Kildare at the moment. Once I got told 2009 I had my mind made up for me. I'll be "meeting the manager" next week and telling them the same thing. Also my employer is going to write a complaint to Irish Rail about the service.

We where expecting a 22:00 to Cork in 2007 but it didn't happen

Dundalk at 50 miles last train is 22:22 and has been for years

Irish Rail persits in sending empty trains around the place, 22:45 to Kildare runs empty back to Inchicore, shortly after 5 a empty train leaves Dublin for Portlaois

It is shocking, same for me in Portarlington, I had to leave a position where there was often overtime so the last train @ 9pm wasn't suitable, and for us there's not even a bus alternative and we've no car in our house.

At our meeting it was said there wouldn't really be scope for later trains until all the new rolling stock had arrived = 12th of Never.
