A small, but useful, change
Is there any chance that Irish Rail might consider putting the best entrance for given seat numbers on the doors for CDE sets.
It would make boarding a lot smoother if people knew which door to get on at for their seat and didn't have to battle 80% of the way down the carriage to get to their allocated seat. |
I suspect that a seat number is always at a certain end, certainly on Cork-Dublin, but it may vary occassionally on other trains.
While I suppose that helps you, it might not help everyone else, so yes numbers and arrows might be useful. <-- 1-36 and 37-72 --> Another thing might be to point out "This carriage mostly reserved" and "This carriage mostly NOT reserved" or similar wording. |
If you do it regularly enough, you get to know lower numbers at the Cork end, higher numbers at the Dublin end.
But a lot of people aren't regulars. I think it helped delay the train yesterday. The 15:30 from Cork was in half an hour late and boarding for the 19:00 only started at 18:55. Eventually, we left 7 or 8 minutes late, but if people had been able to get into the carriages faster, that may have come back a bit. Still, thanks to the miracle of timetable padding, we were on time into Cork. |
Quickest help would be a clearer coach letter on the coach would speed things up
Given we can't get Irish Rail to slap a bike sticker on the bike coach what hope of something simple like this? |
