Galway-Limerick intermediate timetable
Did someone have a timetable for the intermediate stations from Galway-Limerick? I know that Galway, Athenry and Ennis-Limerick are listed publicly.
|
Sixmilebridge is listed in the Dublin-Limerick/Ennis timetable

A day after this thread appears here, a timetable appears on the Irish Rail website...

Guys,
Sorry this may be a silly question but is the journey time on this route not really slow??? |
Of course its slow, but no one listened when everyone was saying that as apparently it was anti west of Ireland.

I know comparing the WRC and the Midleton line, is possibly like comparing chalk and cheese, due to population density, etc... BUT Midleton's initial service frequency (including arrival times in to Kent station) are one of the factors of its success (others being clockface timetable). For a lot of people, the WRC will be a new service (not having experienced the last train services on the WRC). How can five services a day and this timetable make anyone want to get out of their cars? Commuters need some form of flexibility: Someone commuting from Gort to Limerick everyday decides to take the train - the need to make sure that work/college times are within 08:39 - 18:05, otherwise the train is no use to them - flexitime does not seem to be part of I.E. I am very much pro-rail, unfortunately I.E. does not seem to see the possible potential of this new line. |

The speeds are unbelievable really.
Aside from the 2 hours to get from Limerick to Galway, I've long thought that to be a success it would need to be part of a Galway-Limerick-Cork or Galway-Limerick-Waterford route. But the best times offered on these routes are 3 3/4 hours and 5 hours respectively. Both also involve 2 changes of train. Between the speed and the lack of connectivity, you could get the impression that someone wants it to fail. |

IE spent 106m on the line to bring it back to 50mph. This was obviously a compromise figure between spending nothing and spending 200m or more to make sufficient improvements to safely operate at 60-75mph and retrofit those improvements to Ennis-Limerick. It's a political line, as long as it exists on a map the politicians have bought off the West.
|
Some of the line can only be described as undulating, whiles earthworks on a large scale can be relatively cheap, potentially one would have been into earthworks on a truly huge scale, involving buyin parts of surrounding fields.
Of course, it would avoid the problem of regular flooding. |
There is what looks like an elevation diagram in this picture (below the track map)
If that is what it looks like it bears out what Victor just said. |
Gort, Ardrahan, Craughwell - Dublin Day Trips
Was just looking at the printed timetable of the Galway - Limerick services and the online journey planner for Athenry - Dublin services.

Great excel timetable though! And you should submit the map to I.E. because the actual pixel quality of it is far better than the one on the I.E. website. |

There is some class of issue with the height and width trust me he has tried to get this sorted for ages but its never just right

Tried to book online Limerick/Galway on March 31st. When I select train and hit "proceed to reservation" I get the following reply "Your selection cannot be purchased online. You have selected ticket only for all parts of the journey. A P (premier/first class) or S (standard) must be ticked for at least one part of the journey".
Now this service is operated by a railcar so only a ticket can be purchased. They need to do some more maintenance on the website. Also €28.50 each way seems a bit expensive. |
All times are GMT. The time now is 14:25. |
