I've been through the new access to the southbound platform at Lansdowne, and it looks good. At the moment there are no access gates and no ticket machine, so I suspect IE are losing even more revenue than they were before, though a couple of times I did see a surprise ticket checker on the temporary wooden ramp that was in place while it was being constructed.

Will the new Howth Junction station have a similar arrangement? I see the new overbridge is divided in two, to allow pedestrians to cross the line without entering the station, but it's unclear whether you'll be able to access the station from all three platforms without having to cross over on the public bridge first. I'm guessing that there will be a full ticket office on P1, TVM and entry/exit gates on P4, but the building on P2/3 looks fairly minimal, so I'm unsure.

Three turnstiles have arrived in Dalkey and the new access is in use. They are normal turnstiles not exit validation ones

Is there any need for turn styles? Surely the TVM is enough. You have no excuse for not having a ticket if there is a TVM provided.

Ticket has to be validated, it is possible afterall to buy a ticket up to 3 months in advance there is no 90 minute rule as per Luas. Ticket is not considered valid unless it has been validated. The validation stops the ticket from being used multiple times. Under any smart card system there will be a need to tag on and tag off

I forgot about the 90 minute rule on Luas.

It's a shame that it couldn't be done as exit validation gates are being installed in the central stations, allowing the traditional turnstyles to be recycled into the more outlying stations. I would hope that exit validation would become standard throughout the system, so new turnstyles could expect a short life.

Any sign of exit validators in Grand Canal Dock?
