Default Crossing Delays

The 1805 Connolly to Dublin has just spent 25 minutes sitting in Killucan waiting to cross with the 1700 from Sligo (which was 29k operated). This is not an infrequent occurrence despite the fact the Killucan is only 13 km from Mullingar which can be done in under 10 minutes.

Does the signalling system have no way of dealing with this and allow us to proceed? This puts the entire evening timetable in a shambles as there are two other trains behind us which depend on crossing with the 1700 from Sligo. This massively inconveniences a large number of people on a regular basis - particularly in the leaf-slip season.

In the end, we left Killucan 2 minutes after we were supposed to have left Edgeworthstown.

Ok, that question answered itself as we spent another 10 minutes waiting in Mullingar so I presume the 1715 had been waiting at Mullingar for its crossing. It is the usual issue of the 1705 from Sligo having to make too many crossings which *******s the entire evening schedule if anything goes even slightly wrong.
