Default Sligo line flood closure lifted

Iarnród Éireann ‏@IrishRail
Carrick-on-Shannon to Longford line REOPENS after recent flooding from today's 13.00 Sligo to Dublin Clly & 13.05 Dublin Clly to Sligo Sligo services operating with delays of 20-25 mins due to speed restrictions thru flood area. 16.00hrs Dublin-Sligo cancelled

Why is 1600 still cancelled?

They won't have the 5 units out of Sligo in time for the 16.00. Priority will be to restore capacity to commuter and 17.05 services. Would expect maintenance schedules were stretched recently as well.

All the sets in Sligo have to be worked back to Dublin and brought to Drogheda for mandatory inspections. They have gone too long without a full inspection.

Typical piece of idiot journalism in this morning's Indo:

‘I was afraid we would topple over’ – Passenger’s fear as Irish Rail train tilts close to flood waters

It really is getting to the point where it isn't worth buying a paper in this country. The idiot who reported the "incident" has probably made a few hundred euro from the video views. Nice little Christmas present for the entire complement of fools involved.

I saw a 7-car ICR going through Longford at 10:30 this morning so it looks like it is getting back to normal.
