Carols for Commuters with St. Michael's House and Iarnród Éireann by Corporate Communications

St. Michael’s House, one of the largest providers of services to people with an intellectual disability in Ireland, has been selected as our chosen Christmas charity for 2011/2012.

An official launch of the campaign was held in Heuston Station recently where the Christmas tree lights were officially turned on by top Irish model Nadia Forde. Members of CIÉ Male Voice Choir were also on hand to perform Christmas Carols and bring a wonderful Christmas atmosphere to the station.

In an aim to raise essential funds for the charity, Christmas Choirs and collection points will be in Heuston and Connolly stations during December.

Barbara Wiseman, Chief Fundraiser for St. Michael’s House commented: “We are delighted that Iarnród Éireann has chosen us as their charity for 2011/2012. It is great to have the support of a large national organisation like Iarnród Éireann. At St. Michael’s House, we provide community based services provided for people with intellectual disability. We hope with the support of Iarnród Éireann for 2011/2012, we can maintain and build on these services.”

St. Michael's House is a community-based voluntary organisation. Founded by parents in 1955, the organisation has grown to become one of the largest providers of services to people with an intellectual disability in Ireland.

Today, St. Michael’s House provides a range of specialised services to over 1,450 children and adults with a learning disability and their families through 160 community based centres in the greater Dublin area.
