Default Major breakdown at Sallins yesterday

Surprised nobody else on the forum picked this up. There were delays in excess of three hours yesterday after the 1905 Tralee failed at or near Sallins. (From IR twitter)

It got to Nass or at least passed the signal indicating an arrival. Going to guess the brakes couldn't be released as if it was a fault and required a replacement train chances you should of been able to move it to the loop within the hour.

I don't know if it actually continued to Tralee (at passengers may of moved to 18.55 Commuter to Newbridge) as it arrived in the station at 21.05 and Tralee services departed around 22.00.

Believe SLW was in operation after the 19.05 continued which added to the problems.

Wonder if the delayed departure was because of a fault issue....
____

The PA system on the 22000 needs to be sorted out as joined units especially a lot of the time you cannot hear the driver's announcements as they are all interrupted and cut in an out.

Before I tweeted them while on board and the driver made an announcement and we couldn't hear and he then made it again and it was perfect.

_____

The holding trains at a station didn't exactly happen last night. The first train to pass Nass after it was moved/SLW was at 22.10 followed by two more but they stopped the 19.25 for 15 minutes at Hazelhatch before moving it on and it been stopped for 2 hours before clearing Sallins. The 20.30 to Galway depart at 21.10 and by not holding it at Hazelhatch it didn't pass Nass until 23.25.

The 19.15*, 19.20*, 19.25 and 20.30 were all stacked between Hazelhatch and Nass at the same time. * Would of been stuck regardless but the others should not of been.

The 21.00 departed slightly late and they held it at Hazelhatch but it couldn't move as the line was blocked by the above so who knows would it of been cleared if there was room. The 21.10 was held for 2 hours at Heuston and only had a 45 minutes delay passing between Hazelhatch/Sallins.

I don't understand why the 20.30 and 21.00 were not held at Heuston like the 21.10 services at the very least until they cleared the 19.15 service.

The specials had no catering nor do some of the late evening scheduled Sunday services. Possibly a supply of Water should be stored on board or even at some stations where it can be accessed if required.
_____

Worst possible time to happen and the profit from all the specials could be quiet small after it.

Not really much point in commenting. To most people it is completely unacceptable to trap people on trains without access to food or water until the small hours of Monday morning.

Can't imagine they made any money on Sunday night if they informed passengers of their rights of refund.

It wasn't even picked up on in the media which was a bit odd - they normally have something about major rail delays.

I am likewise somewhat surprised it didn't reach Duffy's whinge line. There were five trains stuck en route, although one of these would have been very lightly loaded, probably somewhere between 1300 and 2000 passengers stranded. A further three trains were held in Heuston, the last of these departing around 2320.

Is this referring to the private charter return to Tralee, if so it was scheduled to depart at 17.40 out of Heuston.
