Default [2-8-2010] 15:40 maynooth pearse 22k operated

Interesting to see a 3 piece 22k set operating a bank holiday maynooth line service today

Interesting to see if the bigger commuter sets are operating the rosslare line following Saturdays debacle

A 29K worked the afternoon Rosslare-Dublin while a 28K worked the evening Rosslare-Dublin service. Looks like IE are listening for a change.

But a 29k has fewer seats than a ICR and no space for bikes, and fewer toilets

Okay, I do agree that with regards to seat numbers, the 3 coach 22k has more but in the circumstances of this weekend neither sets would have sufficed.

However, now looking at it from the person who is having to stand in overcrowded conditions, I have done it overcrowded conditions on both a 29k and a 22k and to me, there was more space on the 29k. The ICR reminded me of taking the morning maynooth rosslare train when it was mk2 operated. They are just not suitable for standing passengers, too narrow! For someone paying intercity fares and travelling so far, to stand so far in those conditions especially a 22k is just wrong!

The obvious answer is, a 10.30 service from Connolly at weekends or the return of six piece 2800 trains. Obviously this would be over summer.

Was the 2800 set that ran yesterday afternoon, a six piece set?

The seating difference between a 29K and 22K is minor. The fact is the 29K has more space. IE need to bring back the 6 coach 2800 trains for the rest of the summer.

It was a 4 coach 2800 on the evening Rosslare-Dublin yesterday.

A few extra seats does matter, add to that more luggage space, one more toilet, one more wheelchair space, space for 3 bikes it stacks up.

God help anyone who made a reservation

Given a choice for a 2 hour journey I'd stand on the ICR I'd get the bus if a 28 or 29k showed up

I wouldn't .

The one time I was on an overcrowded 22k, it was one of the most uncomfortable journeys. I was in the aisle of a carriage standing and have been on an enough crushloaded maynooth trains. I would rather take a seat on a commuter railcar.
