Default (23/3/07) 2+ hour delay on Sligo line

Sligo passengers enjoyed the fruits of the wonderful new multi-million automatic signalling system this evening.
The 19.05 Connolly-Sligo (4-car 29000) was held in Killucan for 2 and a quarter hours due to a signalling failure.
A number of passengers were forced to stand or sit on the floor during this period due to a lack of seats.

I was thankfully able to get off in Mullingar and complete the rest of the journey to Longford by car. I learned long ago to drive part of the way on Fridays to avoid the weekend chaos that has become a ritual on the Sligo line.
I overtook the train as it crawled into Edgeworthstown station at just before 23.00 - due to arrive at 20.35.

I must seek out those refund forms

Does anyone know the status of this train. If you go by the journey time for this train on the Irish rail website this train should be getting into Sligo around 1am which sounds like torture! I'd say folk would be thinking they would have been quicker walking home!!!!!

As usual the reletively 9 to 5 IE web site had nothing.

Thank you to John R for the report and much sympathy for your troubles tonight.

We can only assume that the train continued onwards.

You can get the refund details and form here;
