We are the customers who use the train every weekend shouldn't we have a say in the way the new timetable is going to be. They should ask the public more often especially for this line. If they asked me I would say I hate every detail of the trains and the slow-ness between not just Connolly/Bray but also it depends on the driver you get as wired as that sounds. IE should have a new approach for the line have 3services to Rosslare, 2 to Wexford (Which I hope they will do) and 2 to Gorey. Have the timetable not 13.35 or 18.35 but 13.10 and 19.10 something that looks new and looks faster on paper and reality. I am against everything on this line but that 13.05 service should be an example for InterCity like standard. |

Yes but some stops should be cut - (Tara, Pearse & Dun Laoghaire) - as this is not a peak time service. First stop should definitely be Bray for this service.

You see my thoughts exactly. I didn't mention this because I wanted someone to mention this point. Dublin right through to Bray not Tara Street/Pearse/Dun Laoghaire but as Mark Glesson mentioned on another thread that Pearse Station will be included for the interconnector BUT that will take another few years so take Tara & Pearse/Dun Laoghaire OFF ROSSLARE STOPS.

No problem with Pearse being included when Interconnecter is up and running.
There is a case for Pearse & Dun Laoghaire to be included as stops on the last evening train to Rosslare as Thomas J pointed out. Apart from that, all other services to Rosslare really should have Bray as the first stop. Remember its an InterCity not Commuter. |

The problem here is you're sharing track with the busiestline on the irish rail network. You may have issues with Rosslare/gorey but its worth pointing out that people are also giving about some of the noticable gaps on the DART line, including the gap leading up to the departure of the afternoon Rosslare service.
It is worth mentioning that clockface timetable are still on the cards. Have heard irish rail talk about priorities being flat frequencies of 10 minutes peak/ 15 minutes off peak on the DART line with other commuter services slotting in. In a way its a money-saver for IE, so I cant see them not going ahead with it, heard it might happen with the 22ks fully implemented on the Rosslare line. I notice that a lot of people here resent the fact that Intercity and Commuter trains serve the likes of Tara Street, Pearse and Dun Laoghaire. However, these arguments hold very little merit. This is due to the fact that they are either major transportation hubs or because they are right beside important colleges.
I very much doubt that someone going to Trinity College from the likes of Wexford or Arklow will fancy the idea of changing trains at Bray or Connolly when the train they strarted out with can bring them directly there in one go. Additionally, Tara Street is pretty much in the center of the countries capital and a five minute stroll from one of Europes widest thuroughfares, O'Connoll Street. While Dun Laoghaire Station is not located in the city center, it is situated beside a major ferry terminal which is serviced by the HSS. Therefore, people from the likes of Gorey and Arklow have a second option of cross sea travel besides Rosslare Europort. On top of that, all three stations are each serviced by an abundance of different bus routes. To a certain degree, the reason why the rest of the Rosslare services are so slow is either because they are squashed between two DART services and also due to the fact that the line south of Bray is single track. I know there are passing loops on the line. However, the fact that it is single track from Bray onwards, hinders the possibility of large scale development in the areas adjacent to the track. Furthermore, as a MAJOR harbour Rosslare is heavily underserviced by rail. On the other hand, I agree completely that the rolling stock being used on the line is a joke. Fair enough, when it only goes as far as Gorey, I can understand use of the Commuter but when it travels the entire length of the South/East Coast it should be Intercity no matter what. On the more positive side of things, it is the cheapest ticket going. |
