The Sidney Parade bug is really quite simple as IE changed the spelling from Sidney (correct) to Sydney (incorrect but consistent) the voice recordings don't have one for Sydney Parade. Version 8 (our numbers not IE) which appeared on Monday last also has the bug

The signs are at the right height there is a requirement that they can be viewed even if the platform is full of people, once you have seat you are fine

The maps is just plain strange, its so simple, you need 998 maps

We have received no response to earlier complaints from the suburban office and the matter will be referred to a higher level tomorrow in fact

If this is a legal requirement then Broombridge immediately springs to mind as a law breaker. Some of the other Maynooth line stations could be dodgy too.

Default You can always read tube station / London signs!

You *ALWAYS* see a very large number of signs go past your window in any below / above ground station in London.

Why can't IE do this too ?

It's not rocket science.. you put up a larger number of bigger signs that are actually ledgable without binoculars!

Also, why can't they be backlit / front lit?!

DART at aprox 17:50 @ Pearse heading towards Bray.

No voice announcements except "This train is for Bray" at seemingly random intervals.
LED maps working perfectly. this is the first time I've seen one work!
Scrolling display was also correct and accurate.

Well if that was the 17:54 Pearse to Bray which showed up late I was onboard

Thats normal behaviour if the train is led by the older LHB units, the maps work and the displays but it won't state the station name. The driver can't shut the system down if it goes wrong from the lead cab

ah that makes sense now.

Seems a pity that they can't just hook it up to the PA on the LHB units.

I was in the front coach and the PA works its worked for ages is there if a fitted unit at the back, its surprising in many ways that it does

The entire fleet will be fitted by end 2006, currently more than half of the available fleet is fully equipped

Who makes this/these announcement/PIS systems?
Is it one system across the entire fleet or do we have a Mitusi system, a CAF system and an Alstom system?

Also, in Barcelona I noticed a system similar to some of the DARTs that announced in a very polished voice in Spanish and Catalan "Chime" (next station) "proxima estación" (female) followed by a gruff male voice with the station name. It was comical!

The other funny bit is the Spanish vs Catalan bilingual signage. Sometimes the only difference is one accent or a single letter changes.

The DART and 2800 series units share the same kit, the 29000 is different and is more tightly intergrated with the on train computer

Default Arrrghhh, so close but IE manage to screw up again!

On the 09.55 Clonsilla-Pearse this morning the PIS all worked spiffingly until we departed from Broombridge. Upon departing there the audible PIS went silent and the LED displays just kept scrolling "8" and then "06", repeating continuously. The system snapped out of it's malaise when the "The next station is Drumcondra" announcement bellowed and all returned to correct operation (I was going to write 'normal' but normal for IE is not 'correctly operational'). Car no. was 29108.

Other balls ups I spotted today;
11.13 DART Tara-Bray, car 8633 (and whatever it was coupled to) had no side displays at all functioning.

10.23 Connolly-Pearse (don't know origin), car 29412 and the rest of the train had no side displays in order.

I actually only saw 1 train with everthing correct on it today.

Default Which DMUs have PIS fitted?

Do all DMUs have some sort of PIS system fitted?
Does it operate on non-Dublin commuter services? E.g. Cobh-Cork-Mallow.

Currently PIS systems are available on these routes

Longford-Maynooth-Connolly-Bray
Dundalk-Drogheda-Connolly-Bray
Malahide/Howth-Bray/Greystones

Bray Rosslare appears available if service is operated by a 29000 as of Dec 06. Dublin Sligo is still unknown. Kildare Heuston is not available

On train displays and announcements available only on 29000 series units despite 2800 series being fitted also.

No PIS fitted units are allocated commuter to services beyond the Pale

It'd be reasonable to expect this system to be available on IE coaches regardless of wheather beyond the Pale or not.

Are the 2600s and 2700s being retrofitted with the system at some stage?
