Cool, great to get some publicity on it.

Are we any closer to having Ramblers on the Leap?

I tagged on at Hueston yesterday but then tagged off when I couldn't get on a tram there (due to Tall Ships, I guess). I got charged 1.45 even though I didn't actually travel anywhere. I rang up Luas customer care and they are sending out a cheque for 1.45.

2 things wrong here
1. surely I should not have been charged at all?
2. refund by cheque - it should be going straight back onto the card.

We have discussed this with Luas/RPA/ITS/NTA (yes even we don't know who they work for at this stage) and they don't want to enable to transaction cancellation feature

There are some good usability reasons which don't apply to Irish Rail (turnstiles in and out sides are programmed differently)

The direct card refund issue has been raised, phase 2 of Leap should solve that

Student travelcards issued for the 2012-2013 year have a leap NFC chip and can be used for epurse travel.

Loading of weekly/monthly tickets will available in 2013

I notice that when my young son uses his leap card on the Dart (usually at weekends) it invariably charges him a 60c fare. This is about a 60% discount to the normal child fare. Adult fares are only discounted about 15%. Why the difference?

That is the DART schoolchild fare that is applicable during school hours, including, I think, Saturday mornings. However, this is different: http://www.irishrail.ie/index.jsp?p=...42#Schoolchild

Strictly speaking, it is meant for children in school uniform, but a ticket gate can't check that.

Effectively the rules are if in school term Mon-Fri (up until sometime after 16:30) and before 13:30 Saturday the card charges schoolchild fares

If the intention was to have some time dependent dual pricing strategy on one card, then I don't think it's working.

Any further information on updates coming to the Leap card? I seen the functionality to activate auto top-up on the Leap site a few weeks ago. Presumably that function was being tested.

How early in 2013 are we expecting to see product tickets on the Leap card. Dublin Buses website still suggests tickets are due in 2012 but I take it that isn't correct?

First non-60c fare recorded recently. That'll teach me to raise it here! At least IR will raise some much needed extra funds.

Is there any more up to date info regarding the Leap Card and it's developments? Dublin Bus capping testing has apparently commenced, is there a schedule for expected implementation of features. Also are we close to having product tickets available on the card? Thanks for any info!

They've been doing internal testing on some buses for about a month - for ordinary users it will state "CAP:€10,000.00" or similar on buses where it is active. They've haven't asked us to test anything yet.

Expanding the capping to bus and train will be next.

Some issues need resolution.

I noticed on Summerhill based routes, readers having District 45 written on them. Tickets seem to respond differently than before. Thanks for the info lads! I see on their twitter the other day they expect to have Student Tickets on the Student Leap by Autumn '13? Ambitious?

Default Leap Card Auto Top-Up trial

.
Quote:
We would like to invite you to sign up for our Leap Card Auto Top-Up trial.

Auto Top-Up is the easiest way to Top-Up your Leap Card. Auto Top-Up makes sure you never run out of Travel Credit by automatically topping up your Leap Card with funds from your bank account, whenever your Travel Credit balance falls below €10. You can choose to Auto Top-Up by €30.00, €40.00 or €50.00.

The trial is open to the first 200 people who choose to sign-up at www.leapcard.ie between 12 noon and 9pm on Wednesday 8th May.

To take part in the trial, just follow these steps;

1. Register your Leap Card (If you've already registered skip this step);

2. Sign in to your online account between the following times on Wednesday 8th May 2013 12:00 to 21:00

3. Click “Manage Auto Top-Up” which will be under the “My Leap Cards” tab while the sign-up period is open;

4. Fill in the online form;

§ Select the amount you wish to Auto Top-Up by;

§ Provide your bank account details;

Your bank account must be a Republic of Ireland account where only one signatory is required, and the bank account must accept Direct Debit.

5. After three days you will be able to activate Auto Top-Up by simply using your card as normal on any Dublin Bus or Luas service. Please note, for the trial you will not be able to activate Auto Top-Up on DART or Commuter Rail services.

6. Once activated, your Leap Card will then Top-Up automatically when you travel on Dublin Bus, Luas, DART and Commuter Rail services.

Important Notes:

You will need to ensure you have sufficient funds in your bank account at all times. If you receive an Auto Top-Up but the direct debit fails to collect the funds from your bank account, your Leap Card will automatically be blocked.

After you apply you will have up to 21 days to activate the Auto Top-Up facility on your Leap Card. If you do not activate within this time your Leap Card may need to be replaced if you wish to use Auto Top-Up.

Yours sincerely

Leap Card Customer Care
