Sorry to drag the power issue up again but I found an old thread on boards discussing it. Apparantly it was Frank Allen who said the power supply would need to be upgraded to allow Heuston - Connolly shuttle. See Victor's post about half way down

Well the congestion charge is working a treat.

Women on a Luas at 8:25 this morning - shoved her way on at Heuston, telling squashed commuters to squash in more. Then points out to a girl she started talking to that she's on a crutch! Girl says it's terrible how crowded it is just to get to work. Crutch-lady explains she doesn't work in Dublin, doesn't even have a hospital appointment or anything specific - she just likes to travel up this early when she comes to Dublin becuase the train from Tullamore is more reliable at this hour.

PS as a personal plea, can all the tall guys on the Luas in the morning please stop elbowing me in the head and sticking your arms in my face as you hold the ceiling bar. I'm small, I'm not invisible. Rant over!

Of course if this person had bought the Luas add on ticket in Tullamore she would bypass the congestion charge entirely

And that's how the 'congestion charge' idea falls flat on it's face. From experience, it seems to be day trippers in and out of Heuston that add extra unneccessary bodies on the busy trams.

Of course - this only matters if it was intended as a congestion charge, rather than a sleight of hand to sneak in the other increases under the radar....
