Galway to Dublin services still have the following announcement in Portarlington:

"Next station portarlington, change here for services on the Galway and Westport lines."

Thumbs down [23-8-2009] 20:43hrs pearse maynooth

I had to laugh, this is typical of irish rail. there was a scottish couple visiting dublin on the platform with me at pearse.

I had to tell them the train approaching was for maynooth (i overheard them saying this is not the maynooth train coming)

-the destination panel on the train arriving said mosney/maigh nuad
-no internal or external information systems, audio or visual on
-no announcements on the platform

Who would want to be a tourist in this city?

Default [28-8-2009] 17:13 pearse malahide

This train was displaying dundalk on the front destination screen.

External side displays not on, not close enough to see if the internal system was on or if the driver made an announcement.

Also interesting to see the automatic announcements on the platform have been updated to reflect the train only going to malahide

Matter was raised with Irish Rail Thursday lunchtime.

Its the usual lack of attention to detail from Irish Rail, now more than ever the system should be working

Same story, Third sunday in a row.

Got a few confused looks and giggles on the platform at pearse.

The usual misinformation , the usual confusion bray displayed everywhere as destination.

Although the automatic audio announcements were not working. The driver announced the next stations but not once mentioned where the train was going to.

Well done to connolly for announcing the train was only going to pearse

Strange to see eight coach trains on the maynooth line today. I cant see why they should have been that length today.

Indeed, i took the return working of that train, the 21:40 Maynooth-Pearse and was surprised to see it be an 8-car set. As for PIS, it was fine until Porterstown L.C, where it went out of sync("Next station Castleknock") and the driver eventually just turned it off.

19.05 Connolly-Sligo on Friday. Outer displays showed destination as Connolly. No functioning displays or announcements on board. Driver made one manual announcement along the way, think at Mullingar.
Given the state of signage in the stations and the fact it was pitch black outside, it was impossible to tell where you were. Didn't help that we were also running 20 minutes late due to earlier blah blah blah.

The usual story with this train. Front and back destination panels , side information panels , the automatic audio announcements and the internal information system stating the destination as bray.

A few days ago the 16:52 Maynooth to Enniscorthy whilst waiting to depart Connolly, the PIS randomly shouted out 'Next Station Castleknock' whilst showing Drumcondra as the next station. The driver switched off the PIS and switched it back on which put it back in sync. Also finally the 05:35 Rosslare to Connolly is now showing and announcing its destination as Connolly and not Dundalk which it was doing for weeks after the line closed! In fact one morning when arriving into Platform 6 at Connolly, the driver announced that the train was out of service which was followed instantly by the PIS announcing 'This train is for Dundalk'

Default 1640 Connolly to Gorey (30th October 2009)

Don't know if this has been mentioned before but as we were going around Bray head this evening I noticed that the internal displays were showing "Next Station - 5.3km" this figure was decreasing everytime it came up, until it got to 3.3km and then it changed to "The next station is Greystones". I for one certainly haven't seen that message appear on any train before. Also for most of the journey "This is coach A" was coming up.

I noticed this myself in a picture I seen today http://railsceneireland.fotopic.net/p61840960.html
If IE are having its displays telling its passengers how far the station is away I for one am delighted. Its something that has never been done before .
Hopefully the next step the company will take is to simply show the time on the display screens.

Monday in Pearse (around 1730)

Train for Maynooth pulls on the northbound side - front panel was displaying "Littleisland"

At the same time the Wexford train pulls in to the other platform displaying (yes!) "Maynooth"

Hazarding a guess, that Maynooth-bound train you saw was the 17:00hrs Bray Maynooth which is normally a 8-coach 29k? Is this another bug on the 29ks?

That same Littleisland bound train took me to Maynooth via Drumcondra this morning. It called at Cahir, Kildare and Knockroghery stations on the way.

The automatic announcements in pearse and connolly didn't announce phoenix park as a stop for the 15:10 pearse maynooth. Train did stop there, though
