![]() If the 0615 Heuston-Portlaoise was extended that might help but that's only 30mins better than the 0700 departure as the 0615 stops many times on the way to Portlaoise (not to mention that the currently booked train presumably turns back for Dublin). Also, it would arrive at Limerick Junction somewhere around 0820 which until additional platform capacity is constructed is quite a busy time in that neighbourhood.

![]() early train to Cork has been called for by everone of the still existing user groups on the line and it also is in line with the notion of a proper two hourly/every hour rail system.
we ahve been banging heads about the same situation on the Enterprise and we have had a lot of support from Cross Border Bodies as well as IBEC, Unions, Chambers of Commerce. I would imagine it being some sort of election demand too from various parties. Im my own opinion, the usual trodden out nonesense from IE regarding lack of capacity/paths/demand are solvable, and dont take a bucket of money to do so. There really ought to be one arrival from Dublin to Galway/Limerick/Cork/Belfast between 8 and 9 am. Saying that the current patterens are a block is no excuse. Irish Rail had fronted this piecemeal timetable adjustment in the last year or so by vaguely speaking about a year-zero option. That is what is needed. This toe in the water stuff is no solution at all. |

![]() Believe it or not the current staff timetable assigns id A202 to the 7:00 Dublin Cork (i.e. out of normal sequence), which suggests that they actually planned to have a 6:00 Dublin Cork (A200) and pulled back
We might not get it this year but as of end 2011 there will be a pile of trains available to make these things happen 06:00 to Cork is special since you get there before 9 but also get a commuter service from Munster to Cork and Limerick into the bargain

![]() still no train from Heuston to Hazehatch between 17.15 and 18.05 ...u'd never believe thats peak travel time!!
![]() why oh why can they not provide a proper commuter service as far as kildare....even if its just for peak times seems like a waste of more public in doing up the line to have 4 tracks if they are not properly utilised (or even utilised at all) |

Release capacity also off a busy Cork Dublin service as well. There are overcrowding issues on the 7:15 Tralee Dublin and 9:30 Cork Dublin

![]() If it got to Thurles smartly (before any conflict with the 0730 to Limerick) then there's your Limerick connection. With a stop it could replace it but that would reduce the attractiveness of the Thurles service since it's no-change at the Junction at present.

I don't think any serious improvement will be possible until the new 22Ks, 19 3-car sets, being to arrive later this year and, even then, the additional costs might not be justified. But given that there will be sufficient rolling stock, the opportunity to improve the service will present. 2 extra sets would help fill the gaps at peak times. |
