Default Tralee to Midleton

Sorry about this but the potential of a commuter train going from Tralee to Middleton has come up in conversation .I was wondering what chance of it happening seeing as it is 3 trains with a half hour wait to get to east Cork at the moment .

I imagine that it would cost not much more to establish and increase usage of both lines and allow workers to work while traveling.

If you don't mind a journey that starts at 0455 and gets you back to your origin station at 2051, you can commute from Tralee to Midleton now. Who on earth would want to? Who are these workers?

Midletonians can depart 0615 arr 0852, dep 1705 arr 1938. Short day mind you.

A reasonable travel option exists currently as pointed out to make this trip for a 9-5:30 business day. So you can make the trip today no need for any extra trains or costs.

It would cost €440.00 for a monthly ticket, even with a direct service 2:25 each way, its basically looking at the same time as it takes to do Dublin Cork. Not a very practical commute

Why are people so obsessed with commute time the point is that people can work on the train and it costs far less than driving .It was a teacher who made the idea seeing as she was not finished till 10 at night .

The demand to justify a service does not exist and there is a number of problems a service would face:
1 - Both Cobh and Middleton operate same route for most of the commuter lines, one route will always benefit more from Intercity connections as sending two off together wouldn't make commercial sense.

2 - Cork-Tralee services generally only operate Mallow-Tralee shuttle and not the full route bar one or two exceptions so the demand and cost of such a route could't stand up.

3 - 4 coach 22 operate the services (generally), which are not allowed operate on Cork commuter services as platforms are around 2-3m to short.

Rathmore-Carrigtwohill is not doable at present as the 0455/0555 ex Tralee does not stop in Rathmore. The teacher would have to board in Millstreet.

Mon: dep Millstreet 0549 arr Carrigtwohill 0802
Tue: dep Millstreet 0649 arr Carrigtwohill 0832

The return would depend on when his/her work day finished.

There used to be trains through from Mallow to Cobh, but they went a while ago.

Aside from an imbalanced demand north and east of Cork, it also caused punctuality problems. As long as a train is just shuttling back and forth between Cork and Cobh, the rest of the network (aside from Midleton) doesn't have much of an impact on it and it's easy to stay punctual. Commuters in Dublin will be weary of the way InterCity and Commuter services can impact the DART.
