Default Level crossings between Limerick and Ennis

I was having a look in Google Street View and noticed some LCs (Long Pavement Road, Cratloe and Woodbrook) have distinctly "old school" gates. Are these manually operated pending signalling changes in Limerick and if so is this part of the reason why the speed limits on this line are so slow?

I'm not sure what the current arrangements are, but for a time a gate keeper was being sent out to manage the gates, hurrying ahead of the train in his car.
