Post Portlaoise to Heuston 6.51 am

You know autumn/winter has arrive when ........... Ie start blaming leaves on the track/wheels slipping.

That was the excuse this morning ..... arrived into portlaoise about 20mins late .... into heuston about 30mins late.

This train is late into portlaoise 9 times out of 10 and as a result gets stuck behinfd other trains.

IE need to revert back to the 6.45 train starting in Portlaoise - it worked reasonably well compared to this yoke !!

I thought I heard a legimate reason for why leaves on the track are dangerous when wet?

It is a very legitimate reason for delays however it is not outside the control of Irish Rail.

Once you have been on a train doing 60mph, and it goes dead quiet, the brake is in full emergency, every wheel locks, the anti lock system thinks the train is not moving and a red signal not far away, you will believe, its terrifying

Older trains are less prone to problems since they have thread brakes which clean the gunk off the wheels (not by design, lucky coincidence), modern disk braked trains don't have that unintentional feature

Irish Rail can do a awful lot more than they are doing to improve matters

It was indeed. Which coach were you in? I was in the one in front of the buffet, and the internal doors were also locked open, leading to a severe draught down the coach which the heating couldn't overcome. At least there was some heating - better than one day last week when the generator car failed, and heating and lighting were in short supply. They got it going later....
