DART services are currently suspended between Lansdowne Road and Bray due to an overhead equipment fault at Booterstown.

Dublin Bus will honour rail tickets for customers travelling to or from areas south of Lansdowne Road.

Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.

No reason to suspend anything more than Lansdowne Dun Laoghaire even worst case

Trains now running south bound again lansdowne road has just left connolly greystones in five. Delays of up to one hour just announced.

To allow repairs to overhead lines, DART services between Lansdowne Road and Dun Laoghaire will be suspended from 20.45hrs and 22.45hrs approximately.

Dublin Bus will accept rail tickets for customers travelling to/from areas south of Lansdowne Road.

There are also delays to northside services as a result.

Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Of course the online real time system is blissfully unaware

I was on a southbound DART about 1820 in Sandymount when I heard that funny descending 'ooooooom' sound you hear in cartoons when somone shuts down a big electrical thing.

It was followed by an ascending 'ooooooom' as the train re-energised again.

And then a descending 'ooooooom' again after a few seconds.

At that stage I moved to the door ready to hit the button as soon as the telltale clicks came around.

The driver came on the intercom and - fair play - painted the picture pretty clearly. There was a power issue and he was going to have to run through some diagnostics for a while. The doors clicked and I escaped while all the other punters sat onboard what had to be a warm train after a few minutes.

The driver then had a conversation with Connolly while the intercom was still on but I was outside the train so I didn't hear the details other than confirming that he had lost all power.

I left Sandymount and tried to get a bus home. By the time they arrived they had obviously announced the bus arrangements so there were millions of people around. The taxi drivers must have felt like they were shooting fish in a barrel with the number of people trying to flag them . . .

I got to Booterstown about 2030 to pick up my bike and there was a very lonely looking set on the Southbound platform - powered down, dark, empty. There appeared to be a problem with one of the pantographs toward the back of the unit as it looked to be skewed and out of line with the centre ofthe train. There were some orange jackets heading back over the bridge, so I guess they had been working on the set.

If the circuit breakers trip they normally reclose them unless they know there is a problem only for them to trip again. Its a funny experience as the motor alternator on the old sets spins up and the lights come back. On the newer models the computer can be a little trigger happy and can switch the train off for no reason both look the same to the driver

Well the latest info is at just before 6:30pm a southbound train (17:37 Howth Bray), Japanese type only 4 coaches ran into trouble between Merrion and Booterstown.

Through either a fault on the pantograph or the overhead it snagged and was pulled apart, which tripped the circuit breakers

Just to dejargonise this, pantograph is the thing on the roof

Yes, but I didn't think the fact that I walked up to the Embassy Grill for a little something to keep me going and then sat in Herbert park for a while taking in the glorious evening was pertinent to the discussion so I left that bit out.

I wasn't complaining about the 2030 bit, just pointing it out for a time reference.

Did DART's run between Dun Laoghaire and Bray tonight?

It was madness at Pearse tonight! At around 8.00pm there was already a gap pursuing between DARTs of about 25 minutes and Pearse announced there would be a Southbound train in approx 20 minutes probs the last southbound of the night?

When Southbound trains resumed there was aboutt a 45-50 minuite gap to Northbound trains. A southbound train heading to Lansdowne rd bound DART terminated in Pearse and went Northbound.

No problems to Maynooth or Drogheda in the height of this. They left ontime without any disruption.

It says on that online "real-time" table that the 21.55 pearse's to maynooths current location is pearse but in fact the maynooth pearse train based in north strand is that train. They do that with Drogheda trains to and from pearse as well.

Sorry to go off-topic for a moment I just noticed that when checking the status screen at connolly a couple of ddys ago. what happens if the incoming train was to suddenly have a breakdown

Lets add to the conspiracy theories

There will be a complete closure of the DART line between Landsdowne Rd and Dun Laoighre for the remainder of Thursday night. This is due to a signal fault. Services will operate northbound from Landsdowne to Howth/Malahide and southbound from Dun Laoighre to Bray/Greystones. Full service is due to be resumed in the morning.

I'm not happy with those times though. Jacobs staff know Sydney Parade - Jacobs is 15 minutes and Booterstown - Jacobs is 13 minutes.
