Default [July 2010] Cork Cobh - Midleton

Services are likely to be disrupted for several more days. Services Thursday July 1st likely to run normally. Threat of closure exists subject to ongoing inspection of the track.

There is significant damage to points in Cork station platforms 1,2,3 damage elsewhere at points and on curves on both the Cobh and Midleton routes. We don't have specifics as to the nature of the damage e.g. sideware vs cracks

Both track and trains require expensive but relatively quick to perform repair.

This is not as a result of subsidence, vandalism, weather or other act of God class reason

This is not a staff, union or management issue in Cork.

The cause has been traced to a serious process failure within Irish Rail.

Some safety concerns have arisen and these have been referred to the Rail Safety Commission this morning
