sorry keith forgot to mention there is a note on the timetable stating there will be an amended timetable between 14th april 2008 and 27th april 2008 on the gorey/rosslare line to facilitate the resignalling.

Sorry if I may of missed this, are the additional Docklands and services starting from Maynooth to be included after the 18th January so?

appears to be a bit of a cutback. for example... no trains clonsilla docklands between 08.45 and 12.03 and between 12.03 and 14.10 and docklands clonsilla between 09.30 and 12.30 and between 12.30 and 14.36. in my opinion a waste of a station with 2 platforms.

Instead you have (benefitting drumcondra)

Mark, you mentioned that they are running out of space at Pearse. Could this be attributed to the destruction of platform 3? Is that unused platform at GCD not platform 1?

Also the spare platform at Dun Laoghaire would be of great use if they could work around it?

The unused platform at GCD is indeed platform 1, and it does not have overhead wires so only DMUs could use it.

Platform 3 at Pearse was a waste of space anyway given that no southbound trains start there and no northbound trains terminate there.

It is planned to bring platform 1 in Grand Canal Dock into service as the northbound platform and use the current platform 2 as a platform for trains from Drogheda/Maynooth allowing them to terminate and start without getting in the way of other trains as is currently, this will greatly reduce delays in Pearse at peak hours

The platform could be brought into use very quickly if IE bothered but they are in no hurry

The platform is currently unusable since it is not signalled and the track levels are out so railcars are banned from even parking in it

I've boarded trains on platform 3 I'd say at least 150 times, it was used in the recent past for southbound DART services, it's quite a useful platform to have. It future is unknown at this time

That idea for Grand Canal Dock using platform 1 for Northbound Dart services services and platform2 for Commuter services/terminating it makes alot of sense. Rather than leaving the platform to idle.......

Can they actually fit the overhead wires and attendant pylons there? There's a section of plat 1 with about a foot clearance from the wall to the train.

Despite being at the printers for at least 3 weeks copies of the 2008 timetable are still not available

I've been told Thursday which is not acceptable should be available a full month ahead

I find it bizarre that with a timetable to kick in on sunday, that it has not been advertised on the irish rail website.

At Connolly Station yesterday there were a number of signs saying new timetable from sunday 9th december 2007 check irishrail.ie for details something along the lines of that.

It's shocking that the printed timetables will be available tomorrow, 3 days beforehand

There was a time when staff where under orders to refuse passenger requests for the timetable until the day it came into force despite the fact they where stacked in boxes in clear sight of the public

Last year I got my copy a good week ahead

I think its time to go undercover in Connolly again and act a little thick about the whole thing

I'd say its about 30 minutes before IE put a notice up, wonder why......

I can picture people arriving on the day of the new timetable and finding out their train now leaves 10 or 15 minutes earlier or cancelled. Heres hoping there's no delays or that might be the case this year!

I got a copy today from Abbey Street around 3.25pm.

First thing I've noticed is that the Suburban map at the back doesn't show the stations to Kildare and that the Red luas line is only shown from Connolly to Jervis. The Western line is only shown to Castleknock, Phoenix Park is due to open in 2007 and Docklands is still on its ghostly white line. The coastal line runs out at Skerries and Greystones respectively.

A bit crap in other words.

There is a photocopied errata sheet stuck in the middle, correcting 17 mistakes.

As is usual when buying a timetable from the Irish Rail office, there is a number written on the back which suggests that I am the proud owner of timetable no. 8.

At least its a lot more professional looking than the timetables that escaped into the public domain between 1985 and 1990.

Ronald - was this masterpiece signed by the artist by any chance ? Numbering timetables . . . what is the world coming too ? I would hang on to that. I'm sure it will be valuable in due course - a 1st edition IE timetable.
