dart heating
right. it was 1 degree celsius this morning when I left the house. was the heating on on the Dart? Was it f**k!
55 minutes on a freezing cold Dart is no way to start the day - I was starting to feel nostalgic for the Cravens where at least you got a jet of boiling steam emerging from behind the seat to keep you warm. This wasn't even an old Dart - it was one of the new japanese carriages with the electronic map. So, who controls the carriage heating? Does the driver have to switch it on or is it triggered automatically by thermostat? |

Two switches
1 for the cab 2 for the train Its almost certainly human error |

Mk3s & Cú na Mara frequenly have the heating turned off.
Some of the nicer IÉ staff will direct you to other carriages that do have heat (if they do) |

i'll bet you anything that was the 7.30 greystones train! i was on it aslo. Freeeesing for the whole journey! not pleasant.

The Cork MK3 fleet used to suffer from heating failures in random carriages too.
It's something IE need to get right more often. It's really not that difficult. |

Its fairly impossible for the DART heating to fail
Ask the driver to turn it on I had the interesting experience of asking a DART driver to turn his marker lights on, brief panic buttons pushed the lights came on |

I am sorry to hear that you experienced an unpleasant journey yesterday and I have sent a report to the Maintenance Depot to have this unit checked. We have had problems with the heating and the air conditioning units not balancing out correctly, however this would appear to be a case of the heating not working at all. Read as, **** driver didn't turn it on invent cover story
There are two independent AC units on each AC'ed coach one is enough to keep things warm On the original fleet its a old fashioned heating elements as per the old two bar fire, almost impossible for it not to work |

another icy journey this morning - same service, same type of carriage. On these units the heat comes from the vents along the wall by your feet - nothing at all coming from these vents this morning.
I'm not sure if the aircon vents in the ceiling are also supposed to supply heat, but as I could see my breath throughout the journey, I'm guessing they weren't doing anything either. What is the point of giving IE millions to buy new rolling stock if they can't get the basic features on them to work?? |

What train is it Classic game here it to ask the driver to turn the heating on. That will allow you to disprove the excuses from head office |

its the 0730 from Greystones - on both occasions it was one of the most recent type of japanese Darts - the type with the boxy roofline and the electronic maps inside.
to talk to the driver would involve leaving (and losing) my seat and walking up 6 or 7 carriages, though at least if I was standing I could stamp my feet and flap my arms to keep warm... |
